Superman and Ant-Man in "Ambushed... by the Absorbing Man!"

I've been dying to see the Absorbing Man really let loose in live action.  He would make a great villain for either The Hulk or Thor.  We got to see Bruce Banner's father with a similar power set in the first Hulk movie but that was so dimly shot  that is was ultimately unsatisfying.  The real Absorbing Man has appeared a couple of times on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and I've liked what I have seen there, but the limits of a television budget really held him back.

Superman and Ant-Man first crossed paths in STF #329...

Well it looks like all those blog readers who kept asking for Ambush Bug have got their wish. An ambush and a bug.

I'd love to see how the heroes get out of this predicament.

I wish that the powers that be at DC and Marvel would take note of your ideas and work some of them out. I know that they cannot come together all the time to make team-ups. Still it has been over 20 years since they got together, hasn't it? If memory serves me right, it was the Avengers/JLA. I think it's time for another one, and your ideas should be the starting point. Thanks again, Ross, for these covers. I have seen the coolest ideas for inter-company crossovers.

Thanks, Mickey!

The basic gimmick for a real-life counterpart of this story would probably have Scott Lang working at the Metropolis branch of S.T.A.R. Labs because of his cousin Lana's influence with Superman. Hence, Scott being present when Absorbing Man broke into the place to steal some of that kryptonite. Perhaps on behalf of AIM (Advanced Idea Mechanics) who want to weaponize it as the basis for a green K-bomb!

As for the original team-up in STF #329? I'll say the Superman trying to fry Hank Pym is being impersonated by the original (Silver Age) Space Phantom. And, most likely, after the main adventure: Namor attacking Superman out of jealousy,*

The preceding message was brought to you by "Fanboys R' Us." Over-thinking illustrative homages since 2015.

i agree with you Ross. It would be cool to see Absorbing Man in a real fight with any of the MCU super-heroes, or all of them as the Avengers. Since they already established the character on AOS I say just start the movie with an action scene epic throw-down. This is the perfect 1 and done type of character for that.

This is an absolutely great premise for a story! I don't see why they can use Absorbing Man in the MCU. They say the problem aligning AoS or any of the Netflix series is the release dates. However, as a recurring villain, Absorbing Man is not as tied into that. He can go an entire season without being on a television show so as to avoid any timing issues. Hmm...I wonder if Creel can absorb the Speed Force? He and Parasite (or Amazo) could make life difficult for the JLA!

Maybe the League might even mistake Creel, initially, for a new model of 'Amazo' android?

@Tim & Sim: Even with all the revamping Marvel has put itself through, I'm pretty sure Creel is still limited to magically absorbing the physical properties of inanimate matter through direct contact only. Of course, he might be able to get around that if he were to, say, grab a handful of the Puppet Master's Wundagorian clay. That way, he might be able to mind-control Amazo into absorbing some of the Speed Force for him!*

*It was demonstrated in Spidey's earliest Silver Age team up with the Vision that PM's clay can even affect the cranial CPU of an alien robot.

@Mickey: Avengers/JLA was only 13 years ago, in 2003. But you're right, it has been a very long time.
